Emergency Breathing

Five to six breaths each minute. Reset your parasympathetic nervous system.

  1. Stop what you're doing. Sit or stand still.
  2. Breathe in slowly through your nose for 4 seconds.
  3. Hold for 2 seconds.
  4. Breathe out slowly through your mouth for 6 seconds.
  5. Repeat 5-6 times. That's one minute.

Your nervous system will reset. Your heart rate will slow. Your thinking will clear. Master this. Then practice with another person this week.

JoYi Rhyss

30+ years working with high-risk youth. Former director at PACT Kalihi, Hawaii. Built The Good Skill, the first equity-first AI coding skill, using the same tools she teaches others.

Moved to Hawaii in 2005 with three kids. Found healing through mindfulness and forgiveness practices. Now building the tools she wished existed when she needed them most.

AIdedEQ is the technology arm of The Practice Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. We build equity-first emotional intelligence tools and teach communities to build their own.
